How did Masonry gain its footing at the start of the 19th century?

Join Corinthian Lodge No. 8 on March 18th at 6:00pm for a unique educational event where we will be displaying the 1801 Appointment of Deputation signed by Revolutionary War Veteran Col. William Polk, then-Grand Master of Masons of North Carolina and Tennessee, to William C.C. Claiborne. This document, perhaps the last tangible vestige of the first Lodge in Tennessee, empowered Claiborne to visit Harmony Lodge No. 29 (No. 1 of Tennessee), and ensure they were operating regularly. Claiborne was then only in his mid-20s but had already been a Congressman, a Superior Court Justice, and mere months after his Visit to Harmony Lodge, he was appointed by President Jefferson as Governor of the Mississippi Territory.

Attendees will hear the words of W.C.C. Claiborne himself, published after his Visit, and participate in guided group discussions “Exact and Perfect in Practice and Theory”, “The Imperious Law of Nature”, “The Tabernacle in the Wilderness”, and “A Skillful and Confidential Brother” to culminate with sharing potentially new insights in Masonic history. This evening will be more than the sum of its parts.

Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and seats are limited so RSVPs and a modest Reservation Fee will be required.
