“Masonic labor is purely a labor of love. He who seeks to draw Masonic wages in gold and silver will be disappointed. The wages of a Mason are in the dealings with one another; sympathy begets sympathy, kindness begets kindness, helpfulness begets helpfulness, and these are the wages of a Mason.”
Benjamin Franklin
Making Good Men Better
The mission of Freemasonry is to promote a way of life that binds like minded men in a worldwide brotherhood that transcends all religious, ethnic, cultural, social and educational differences; by teaching the great principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth: and, by the outward expression of these, through its fellowship, its compassion and its concern, to find ways in which to serve God, family, country, neighbors and self.
-
A fraternity of men dedicated to building the moral character of its members and the preservation of personal freedom.
-
No. Every applicant must express a belief in a Supreme Being to whom all men are accountable but no particular religious affiliation is required.
-
One theory is that the organization was developed by the ancient stone masons. Another is that it originated with the Knights Templar.
The lineage of Corinthian Lodge starts in the same decade as Nashville’s incorporation.
The two have since co-evolved, their histories inseparable.
“Our Lodge’s history reaches back to 1812, when it formed under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. Its membership then included many leaders of the community and has remained a progressive institution through the years. Our members have been Governors, Mayors, Supreme Court Justices, Boat Captains, Surgeons, Stagecoach Makers, Immigrants, Veterans, Cooks, Musicians, Printers, Architects, Bishops, Rabbis and Firemen. We strive for that masonic ideal to bring together those who otherwise might remain at a perpetual distance and we remain the better for it.”
